I'm a mid-twenties marketing professional and freelancer living in Austin, TX. I have a degree in Marketing from the University of Texas and half a decade of experience in online marketing, design, and creative writing.

I'm currently looking for opportunities to advance my career, to work on awesome things with awesome people, and to learn, grow, and give back. I'm always on the lookout for freelance projects that match my talents.

My Interests

I am an avid patron of the arts, enjoying film (especially independent and foreign cinema), fine art (modern paintings, sculptures, architecture), acting (everything from modern musicals to Shakespeare), comedy (stand up and improv), music (modern and classical), and dance (watching or participating).

I'm a frequent visitor to the Alamo Drafthouse and an attendee at the annual Austin Film Festival.

I love to travel, meet new people, and experience new cultures. I'm fascinated by human psychology and sociology and how groups interact. I've been all over the US, to many parts of Mexico, and to China. I hope to take in many more sights and sounds.

When hanging with my friends I often enjoy playing board games and video games, singing karaoke, or chatting over coffee and beer. I love trying new foods and discovering hidden local gems. I love language and rhetoric; there's nothing I enjoy more than a lively debate over politics, business, philosophy, or human behavior.

Max Barry is one of my favorite authors for casual reading, and I enjoy webcomics such as Penny Arcade, XKCD, and AbstruseGoose. I'm a self-proclaimed geek and fan of sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and historical fiction.

My Brand

At the core I'm a big picture thinker. I see all the pieces - product, promotion, marketing, message, engagement, and aesthetic - as a puzzle I must fit together to create a remarkable experience. As a strategic thinker, I try to understand how each part interacts and adds to the whole.

I'm a maven, an obsessive learner who seeks knowledge and understanding of how to connect people, products, and services to create startling new opportunities.

I ask why and why not, and pursue innovation through curiosity and a fresh outlook. My marketing strategies are enhanced by an eye for aesthetic and powerful penmanship. My designs are enhanced by strategic sense and consideration for human behavior.

My Values

The things I value most in my work, my employers, and my relationships:

  • Authenticity – the courage to be real, to bring intrinsic emotional value, to delight

  • Transparency – the audacity to be honest, to be naked, to show the world what you're made of and succeed

  • Imagination – the wisdom to be childish, to be uniquely you, to let go of rules and boundaries and let your mind soar

  • Connectedness – the generosity to share, to unite, to create a public good so phenomenal it reshapes the culture for years to come

  • Curiosity – the urge to ask why, to explore, to challenge the status quo and pose – 'what if?'

My Projects

I'm keeping a keen eye on mobile applications and digital lifestyle through technologies like the iPhone, Kindle, and augmented reality.

I also study the changing landscape of social media and the way we interact within our communities.

I'm interested in digital distribution and how the internet continues to change the way we consume media. As hardware, software, broadband, and interaction converge we will see new innovative ways to publish, promote, and connect users and embrace the diversity of niche.

FAQ

Why theremarkablemarketer? Isn't that a bit pretentious?

I chose the name based on what I value, not what it implies. I believe the key to truly outstanding success in marketing lies in creating a product, service, or experience so phenomenal, customers can't help but remark on it and share it with others. Plus it has a nice alliterative aesthetic, don't you think?
