Mock webapp to create an immersive online shopping experience
I was asked by the UI and web app development firm Red to create a mock application for Home Depot to better integrate the in-store products and services with their online shopping experience. I designed a webapp named Creation, which provides project management, inventory control, and client relationship management tools for independent contractors and small business customers.
The Research
My research revealed four primary market segments to target for this application: hobbyists, homeowners, novices, and professionals. I identified the needs of each group and designed the tools and interface to address those needs.
I then created a content matrix matching each tool with the segment it addresses and an example user action flowchart and branded interface.
My Solution
The application is built around 6 interactions: buy, sell, learn, share, grow, and build.
Buying applications are the primary ecommerce function of the site, allowing customers easy access to the products and resources they need for their project or client.
Selling applications provide a marketplace for contractors to sell their services and expand their client base.
Learning applications include beginner's tutorials and expert articles for a variety of home improvement projects.
Sharing adds a social aspect to the site, allowing customers to share their knowledge with others and ask or answer specific questions related to their project needs.
Growing applications are useful tools for project and client management, providing a turn-key application for professionals to oversee every aspect of their operation and stay organized.
Combined, these applications form a platform for individuals and small businesses to maximize their business and project creation needs. The site aims to simplify the vertical process of sales and supply chain management so customers can focus on the strengths of the building services they provide or complete their home improvement project with less hassle.
